How Often Should You Groom a Cavoodle, Groodle or Other Oodle?
It’s one of the most common grooming questions:
“How often should my Cavoodle be groomed?”
The answer depends heavily on the coat.
Oodle crosses can have very different coat textures - even dogs from the same litter can be surprisingly different.
A general guide
For many Oodles, owners find that a professional grooming appointment roughly every 4–6 weeks helps keep the coat manageable.
But this isn’t a rule.
Dogs kept very fluffy may need more frequent grooming.
Dogs kept in short clips may have slightly more flexibility.
The haircut you choose matters
A longer teddy-bear style requires more maintenance than a shorter cut.
That means brushing at home needs to match the length you want your groomer to maintain.
If you’d prefer minimal home maintenance, a shorter style may be much more practical.
Where do Oodles commonly tangle?
Watch areas including:
- Behind the ears
- Armpits
- Chest
- Legs
- Around collars
- Under harnesses
- Tail
- Face
One of the tricky things about Oodle coats is that the top layer can still look fluffy even when tangles are forming underneath.
Why can’t the groomer simply brush it out?
Small tangles may be manageable.
Severe matting is different.
Trying to remove extensive matting can be uncomfortable and time-consuming.
Sometimes going shorter is the safest and kindest option.
And importantly, a short reset doesn’t mean your dog can never have a fluffy cut again.
It gives you a fresh starting point.
Start puppies before they desperately need a haircut
One of the best things you can do is introduce grooming early.
A puppy appointment can help them become familiar with:
- Bathing
- Drying
- Brushing
- Nail handling
- Face handling
- Being on a grooming table
That way their first grooming experience isn’t also a long and complicated Full Groom.
Your dog’s ideal schedule
The best schedule is one you can realistically maintain.
Your groomer can help you choose a routine based on the haircut you like and the amount of brushing you want to do at home.
At Oodles and More, we groom small and medium-sized dogs up to 20kg at our grooming salon in Brisbane.
