How Often Should My Dog Go to Daycare?
There isn’t one perfect daycare schedule.
Some dogs love attending several days each week.
Others get everything they need from one regular daycare day.
The best schedule is the one that works for your dog and your life.
Is once a week enough?
It certainly can be.
One regular daycare day can give your dog:
- Social interaction
- A change of environment
- Mental stimulation
- Enrichment
- Familiar time with staff and other dogs
It can also become a predictable part of their week.
What about two or three days?
For dogs who genuinely enjoy daycare, attending more frequently can build even more familiarity.
They know where they’re going.
They know the team.
They recognise other regular dogs.
They understand the routine.
For owners working long days, this can also provide a practical solution for several days of the week.
Should my dog attend every day?
Some dogs may enjoy frequent daycare, while others benefit from having quieter days in between.
Dogs also need:
- Sleep
- Time at home
- Walks
- Time with their people
- Quiet neighbourhood sniffing
- Doing absolutely nothing
More stimulation isn’t automatically better.
Look at the dog in front of you
Instead of choosing a schedule purely by number, look at your dog’s response.
After they become familiar with daycare:
- Are they happy to arrive?
- Do they seem comfortable with staff?
- Do they enjoy the environment?
- Are they settling well afterwards?
- Do they seem to enjoy coming back?
Those are useful indicators.
Consistency can matter more than quantity
Some dogs respond particularly well to predictable routines.
Going every Tuesday may be more meaningful than attending at completely random intervals.
The environment gradually becomes part of normal life.
Our approach
At Oodles and More, we would rather help a dog find an attendance pattern that suits them than tell every owner they need exactly the same schedule.
Our daycare in Brisbane is designed for small and medium-sized dogs up to 20kg.
Every new daycare dog begins with a Trial Day.
From there, you can find a routine that works for both of you.
