Dog Daycare vs Dog Walking: Which Is Right for Your Dog?
Dog daycare and dog walking can both be wonderful options when you have a busy day.
But they aren’t really substitutes for one another.
They offer dogs very different experiences.
What does a dog walker provide?
A walker may be ideal if your dog mainly needs:
- A toilet break
- Exercise
- Time outside
- A change of scenery
- One-on-one attention during the day
Some dogs also simply prefer people to groups of other dogs.
For those dogs, a dog walker may be a better fit.
What happens at dog daycare?
Daycare is usually a longer and more social experience.
A dog may spend the day experiencing:
- Other dogs
- Familiar staff
- Play
- Enrichment
- New smells and activities
- Quiet periods
- Rest
For socially suitable dogs, the relationships they develop can be one of the nicest parts of attending regularly.
Daycare isn’t about exhausting your dog
It’s easy to assume that a successful daycare day means your dog comes home and immediately falls asleep.
While they may certainly be tired, total exhaustion isn’t our goal at Oodles.
Dogs need balance.
That’s why our philosophy is:
More than play, a balanced day.
Could you use both?
Absolutely.
Your dog might attend daycare one or two days a week and have walks on other days.
There’s no reason it needs to be one or the other.
For example:
- Monday: Walk
- Tuesday: Daycare
- Wednesday: Home day
- Thursday: Walk
- Friday: Daycare
The ideal routine depends on your dog and your own schedule.
Which dogs may enjoy daycare?
Daycare may particularly suit dogs who:
- Enjoy being around other dogs
- Are comfortable in a social environment
- Benefit from interaction during the day
- Enjoy varied activities
- Settle into familiar routines
Suitability always matters more than simply assuming every dog should attend daycare.
At Oodles and More, new dogs start with a Trial Day so we can get to know them before regular attendance.
We specialise in small and medium-sized dogs up to 20kg at our indoor daycare in Brisbane.
